1 Year Checkup

Talia had her 1-year checkup today with the pediatrician.
Here are her stats:
Weight: 18 lbs 4 oz (10th percentile)
Height: 28.75 inches (25th percentile)
Head Circumference: 18 inches (75th percentile)

Talia's development is right on track. The doctor continues to be pleased with her vocal skills (she pointed at everything in the office and asked "a-dat?" just as she does continuously at home). She was a perfect angel while she was measured, inspected, and had her reflexes checked. No immunizations today because she's dealing with yet another chest cough requiring breathing treatments, so it was an altogether happy trip!

Talia - 1 Year Old

Unofficial Stats: 19 lbs; NA
TALIA FUN FACTS
Favorite Pasttimes: Exploring, Gabbing, Cruising, Pointing
Favorite Toys: Toys? She's much more interested in things she shouldn't have:)
Favorite Word: Da-da
Word most often heard at our house: No
New at 1 Year!
Eating almost entirely big people food
Cruising
Steering her car VERY well
Asking what's that? "A-dat"
Talia is truly a toddler more than a baby at this point. Her personality shines through continuously. She's incredibly happy, inquisitive, active, and downright silly sometimes. She is constantly motoring around, getting herself into trouble half of the time. She is likely to think her middle name is "no" soon. We know she understands the word "no", but she still thinks it is a bit of a fun game we're playing and will stop, look at you, smile, and then do it anyways:)
She is eating almost 100% big people foods and just transitioned from formula to whole milk. Her favorite position is to be standing and will race across the room with the objective of pulling up to grab something off a table. She continues to love the stairs and is a master at climbing them, but hasn't yet figured out how to get back down. With all her new activity, she has also begun to understand pain, as she takes at least one tumble a day.
Her schedule is rather predictable now, with just one nap per day at daycare, just after lunchtime. When she's healthy and in her own home, she falls asleep easily after rolling around in her crib to find a comfy spot and will sleep soundly until we wake her (during the week), or until about 8AM on weekends.
Her hair is definitely blonde (with natural highlights!) and curly and her eyes are a strange color nobody can quite put into words. They're definitely blue-ish, but not Mommy's blue. She continues to be petite, but is stronger than you could imagine.

Pittsburgh Weekend

Talia spent her long birthday weekend in Pittsburgh visiting Grandma, Pappy, Aunt Lee Ann, Uncle Dan, and cousin Madelyn. She had a lot of firsts: 1) trip to the zoo, 2) chocolate cake, 3) encounter with llamas and goats, 4) dip in the kiddie pool!

While we were in the area, we snuck in a visit with our friends, Rosalie and Chris, who live in Pittsburgh. It was the first time for them to meet Talia and for us to meet their cutie, Imogen (2 years old). The girls had a great time - we'll probably have to buy Tally a grocery cart soon....

First Trip to the Zoo

Talia visited the Pittsburgh Zoo last Friday! She is definitely an animal lover and had a blast. It was a hot day, but the wagon came in handy once again and successfully kept little Miss T and Miss M shaded all day. In fact, Miss Maddy even used it for a bed at one point during the day:)

Talia is ONE!

Talia turned 1 year old on Sunday! She spent the weekend in Pittsburgh visiting Grandma, Pappy, Aunt Lee Ann, Uncle Dan, and cousin Madelyn. On Saturday, there was a big party just for Miss T - complete with balloons, streamers, presents, and cake and ice cream! Talia LOVED the chocolate cake, but wasn't too happy when she realized how cold ice cream can feel on your hand........

Oh yeah, remember - we share a birthday - so here are the BIRTHDAY GIRLS!

Talia - 51 Weeks

"Gotta love my hair!"

One more week and Tally will be ONE YEAR OLD!!! Can everyone believe it? Her Mommy and Daddy cannot, but then they can -- because it's hard to imagine what the world was like pre-Talia Mae.

It's summer in Midland again and we've established our weekly picnic lunch once again. It's awesome to see T during the middle of the day. We mess with her schedule a bit as her nap ends up late, but she doesn't seem to mind at all.

New at 51 weeks?

  • Saying "Dada" on cue. Even funnier (or more frustrating?), saying "Dada" when asked to say "Mama". We think it's a game for her at this point:)
  • Eating significant quantities of big people food! Favorites? Bread with hummus, cheese, yogurt, applesauce, ravioli, grapes, pineapple.
  • Consistently taking one nap per day, two hours in length, right after lunch. Yay!

Talia - 50 Weeks

Talia is 50 weeks old and she's into everything! Here are some shots of her getting herself into trouble:)

She learns more every single day and continues to amaze us with her growing personality and intelligence. She definitely understands what you say now and sometimes listens.

New at 50 Weeks?

  • Consistently waving bye-bye. In fact, she starts waving to Miss Kristy or Miss Cindy as soon as Mommy or Daddy arrive to pick her up from daycare:)
  • Giggling while playing hide and seek (TRULY) with Mommy. Mommy will run and hide and Tally will quickly crawl to find her, laughing when she find her.
  • Significant connotations in her words - up/down, questioning, etc
  • Imitation (repetition) of sounds someone else asks her to make
  • Attempting to cruise between toys / furniture. She will readjust her position to allow her to step toward another item. Never without holding on to something, but definitely becoming more assertive.
  • Standing without holding on for balance

Talia's First Race!

Mommy & Daddy competed in the annual Midland Dow Run/Walk race on Saturday morning. Daddy ran the 10K and Mommy ran the 5K with Talia!

Talia was oblivious to the whole experience, chatting away and playing with her pacifier as we jogged. She was incredibly cooperative and although the stroller was certainly a challenge amidst the mass of runners, Mommy finished 7th in her age group with a pretty good time! Our picture wasn't printed in the newspaper, but was the first one listed online. Check us out!~

Memorial Day Weekend

Talia's first Memorial Day weekend was a busy - and FUN - one! She got to spend the whole weekend with her cousin Madelyn. Maddie is only 10 weeks younger than Tally, but the same size (probably bigger). Everyone we saw out and about thought they were twins:)

It was a beautiful weekend, with sunshine and temperatures in the 80's - 90's. We spent as much time outside as possible, playing in the backyard, walking around downtown, checking out a Loons baseball game, taking the girls to the splash park, and visiting Frankenmuth.

Talia & Maddie, enjoying the wagon Tally got (early) for her birthday from Nana & Poppy!

She LOVED this pickle:)

It was too hot for clothes after awhile:)

SPLASH PARK - which Talia hated.....
